Hope,\u201d<\/strong> where PhD students shared brief reflections on their research journeys. In this activity, participants wrote one sentence describing the <strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1216\">reality<\/strong> of their PhD experience, including challenges and struggles, and another sentence expressing their <strong data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1324\">hope<\/strong> and motivation for continuing their research. Using a simple example of a digraph known as the <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" data-start=\"1908\" data-end=\"1937\">directed cyclic sun graph<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">, he demonstrated the relationships between adjacency matrices, antiadjacency matrices, in-degree Laplacian matrices, and out-degree Laplacian matrices. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">He also highlighted an analytical approach to studying these matrices. In particular, he showed that the entries of the <span class=\"katex\"><span class=\"katex-mathml\">k<\/span><\/span>-th power of the adjacency matrix correspond to the number of distinct directed walks of length <span class=\"katex\"><span class=\"katex-mathml\">k<\/span><\/span> in the graph.
